QUERÉTARO, March 28, 2021.-During this hot season, an increase in cases of scorpion stings is expected in the state of Querétaro since the climate favors the presence of these insects.

The state head of the International Health Regulations of the State Health Secretariat, José Hernández Puga, reported that so far this year there have been 351 cases of people arriving at public hospitals to receive care for scorpion bites.

He indicated that mainly these cases occur in the municipalities of Corregidora, Querétaro, and El Marqués and that people between 25 and 44 years of age are the most affected by the poisoning of this animal’s poison.

Hernández Puga, recalled that during the past year 4,779 people were treated for this reason.  He also affirmed that during 2020, as well as in 2021, there have been no deaths due to the sting of a scorpion in the entity.
