A little over a year ago, workers from a well-known hotel approached the offices of the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Peasants (Confederación Revolucionaria de Obreros y Campesinos CROC), the employees are saying that they were harassed at work, that they received mistreatment, and were not paid overtime while forced to work more hours. Some of them were fired without justification, as stated by David Liedras, CROC representative in Los Cabos, in reference to the recent demonstrations that hotel workers have made.
Through a face-to-face count inside the hotel, the majority of the hotel workers decided to join the CROC, but the company did not recognize the decision of the employees.
In a second round, with the support of the federal and state government through the Ministry of Labor, the issue was revised again, this time it was possible to sign an agreement with the national leader of the CROC Isaías González Cuevas, but the managers of the hotel did not respect it and staff has been mistreated and fired, a situation that has given rise to the recent demonstrations.
On March 23, a hearing was held at the Local Board of Conciliation and Arbitration to set the date for trial, but it was not possible, so workers will have to wait for a new hearing for this purpose.
In context, David Liedras added that if there were people who were fired for their intention to join the CROC, the union will see a way to integrate them since article 358 of the Federal Labor Law establishes that the worker has freedom of affiliation, and the same is handled by the USMCA.
