Oaxaca City Council does not grant permits for any public event during Semana Santa

Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca, March 24, 2021.- In order to prevent an increase in positive cases of COVID-19, the Municipal President, Oswaldo García Jarquín along with the councilors unanimously approved that, for the Easter season, the Oaxaca de Juárez City Council does not grant authorization for any type of public event, due to the health alert decreed by the federal authority.

This measure will be in force from March 28 to April 4, 2021, and is applicable to groups, tours, screenings, artistic and cultural presentations, exhibitions, gastronomic shows, Stations of the Cross, and any religious event that leads to an agglomeration of people or any event in general.

For this reason, the directorates of Government, Public Safety, Roads and Citizen Protection, as well as Culture and Tourism and the Economy Secretariat were instructed to monitor compliance with this agreement within the scope of their powers and attributions.

In this sense, the councilors of the state capital also approved by majority the opinion issued by the Commission of Markets and Commerce in Public Roads that resolved not to authorize the installation of positions related to the Holy Week festival, requested by the citizen Estela Mendoza López.

During his speech, Luis Arturo Avalos Díaz Covarrubias, the councilor for Municipal Assets, Pantheons and Services and Markets and Commerce on Public Roads, indicated that considering the installation of establishments on public roads on the occasion of the Holy Week holiday is not appropriate It is based on the regulations of the Commission of Markets and Commerce in the Public Highway and the regulation of the activity itself.

He explained that, according to the Police and Governmental authorities, this commission is in charge of determining and presenting opinions to regulate the activity and, among its attributions, to control the activity and issue permits with a prior opinion to present them in a Townhall session.

The Municipal President, Oswaldo García Jarquín approved the corresponding notifications.

The councilor for Health and Social Assistance, María de los Ángeles Gómez Sandoval Hernández, invited the inhabitants of the municipal agency of Dolores and surrounding neighborhoods to attend the tenth Free Medical Attention Conference that will take place next Sunday, March 28 at the Los Ríos Fraccionamiento, starting at 9:00 a.m., in which quality medical services will be offered, in a great effort by the City Council through the Municipal DIF, the Human Development Directorate, companies individuals and collaborators of the city administration.

Finally, the councilor for Agencies and Colonies and Safe and Mobility Municipality, Ismael Cruz Gaytán, emphatically reiterated that he urged the population not to lower their guard in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized that it is essential to avoid crowds in the Easter holiday season; he said that maintaining sanitary protocols is essential to reduce the incidence of infections.
