The purpose is for smokers to put their butts in the tubes instead of throwing them in the sand to avoid contamination.

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- In order to prevent cigarette butts from contaminating the sea, on Friday afternoon 21 cigarette butts were installed along one kilometer on the beaches of Mazatlan.

The initiative worked together since last year between the MazConCiencia association with the Pesca Azteca group and now with the sponsorship of Café El Marino, has managed to collect thousands of cigarette butts in the coastal area.

Although the purpose is for smokers to put their cigarette butts in the tubes instead of throwing them on the beach, dozens of cigarette butts can be seen in the sand, even when shells are only a short distance away.

Throughout North Beach, the colilleros (cigarette butts) can be seen, placed in different palapas, and in some of them, they pass hands on the boardwalk. The collected cigarette butts are delivered to the company Last Chance 4 Earth (LC4E) to be recycled.
