The Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya AC (CTMM), announced that in the month of March and after almost a year of being closed due to the health contingency, it will open its doors to the public with a series of security restrictions and changes in schedules, to provide the service and take care of the health of the visitors and workers of the Los Altos Cultural Center-Ex-Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, located in the Magical Town of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas.
The Covid-19 pandemic that broke out around the world in 2020, forced the CTMM, like all public spaces, to close its doors, and led them to face the challenge of inventing new ways to continue working for the preservation and promotion of traditional textile art.
It is important to highlight that the collaboration with the National Institute of Anthropology and History has been fundamental to carry out the security and maintenance work of the historic property, as well as the attention to the collections.
Initially, most of the operation and planning of activities were carried out remotely from the workers’ homes.
As of March 21, 2020, the cleaning and disinfection routine of the spaces was redoubled, the security of the property was reinforced, a series of measures of special care was implemented for the conservation of the collections of Fomento Cultural Banamex AC, and from the Board of Trustees of the Pellizzi Collection on loan in that space.
“Undoubtedly, these are times to evolve, all our energy is focused on adapting to this unusual situation to guarantee everyone’s health, as well as on training and reorganizing services, in a creative and innovative way, like everything else. that the CTMM proposes.
We have prepared for the #safetyreturn, with all the training of the personnel, the equipment, the hygiene protocols, the requirements of the authorities and the review of the route to give the public all the confidence that they will have a #healthy visit ”.
Naturally, both the allowed capacity and the hours will be limited, which will be adapted both to the status of the pandemic and to the needs of the public.
