SEP reiterates that return to classrooms only at green traffic light.

The agency said that the opening of schools must be authorized when the health, educational, and government authorities in the entity consider it appropriate.

The Secretary of Public Education, Delfina Gómez Álvarez, reiterated this Friday that it is not possible to make a return to face-to-face classes in a generalized way, since each campus in the country has its own context and characteristics to define the way in which this process would be carried out.

“The educational authorities, both federal and local, have to observe the appropriate way and time in which children return to school,” said the head according to a statement from the SEP.

Gómez Álvarez added that the opening of schools must be authorized when the health, educational and government authorities in the entity consider it pertinent .

“It must be a safe, orderly and cautious return, both for teachers and students,” he said according to the document.

Thus, the head of the SEP stressed that the return to face-to-face classes will depend on the existence of the necessary conditions, first of all, that there is a green traffic light, as established by the health protocol, or yellow for the opening of Community Learning Centers.

Once the schools are reopened, the educational authorities will be attentive that they comply with the necessary hygiene conditions, such as access to water and soap; use of face masks and, above all, that there are safety conditions for teachers, in addition to the fact that teachers must be vaccinated.

“We cannot make a disorderly return, precisely for the benefit of our children and our teachers,” he said.

Last Tuesday, the National Association of Private Schools (ANFE-ANEP) announced that they would return to face-to-face classes in private schools on March 1, however, the SEP ruled out such a possibility.

Delfina Gómez is on a working tour of Campeche, where she will meet with the governor, Carlos Miguel Aysa González, and with the local Secretary of Education, Ricardo Koh Cambranis.
