Historic Center of Oaxaca invaded with crafts from other states

OAXACA, Oax. – While some businesses have had to close in the city of Oaxaca, the street vendors with handicrafts from other entities have invaded the tourist walkway of the city of Oaxaca.

These stalls, in the Historic Center of the city of Oaxaca, even cover formal businesses, those that pay taxes and cover their fees despite the emergency.

The municipal authorities themselves have been the ones that have encouraged this informal trade.

The people, the tourism that goes to the city of Oaxaca, is where they do their shopping, that is to say, that they also promote this vicious circle, because instead of buying products in formal stores, they opt for street vendors.

Competition is also unfair for artisans, since their creations are often copies of those made by the communities.

Just as there is an asymmetry in the large fashion firms that have taken models, street vendors are also a form of unfair competition.

In these positions there are no health measures either, as they do not even offer gel and some people even without face masks.

The tourist walker is a source of Covid contagion due to the concentration of people it encourages, especially in the afternoons, when the sun goes down and the few free spaces are occupied by these vendors.
