American adds new destinations to Mexico and Latin America

American Airlines added three new destinations from DFW International Airport to Latin America and the Caribbean in an attempt to encourage travelers to go on vacation and visit family.

Starting in June, American will offer routes from DFW to Santa Lucia and San Martin in the Caribbean and Mérida on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, tourist areas of the world that have somehow resisted the decline in travel as people seek more destinations. outdoors and shorter international flights.

The flights from DFW are part of a list of new routes announced Monday that reinforces American’s Miami hub for destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean, including an entirely new one in Paramaribo, Suriname, in South America. South.

“Latin America and the Caribbean have not declined as much as other destinations during this crisis,” said Brian Znotins, vice president of network planning for American.

“And that is our natural strength, our presence in Latin America.”

American Airlines and other airlines are struggling to attract their customers again after the prolonged coronavirus pandemic, which has deeply affected domestic flights and destroyed international air traffic.

In reaction to the pandemic, American, United, Delta, and even Southwest have bet on Mexico and the Caribbean, as well as warm-weather destinations on the US Gulf Coast.

Latin America has the added advantage of being popular with first- and second-generation immigrants to the United States who want to return to their home countries to visit family and friends.

“We are increasing the frequency to all destinations in this region,” Znotins said.

The three new routes from DFW will be offered seasonally beginning in June with departures only on Saturdays.

Those flights end on August 14, but American plans to reintroduce the route to St. Lucia next winter.

In the Caribbean, island governments are eager to attract tourists and travelers again and have implemented strict protocols and clinical trial rules to receive tourists by air.

Some resorts have even been paying the expenses of clients who could be quarantined due to the pandemic.

Much of the new emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean falls on American’s hub in Miami, where it plans to increase its flights by 16% compared to last year.

But it also benefits DFW, a better starting point for American customers in the American West, the Great Plains and the Mountain West.

New routes to Latin America and the Caribbean from DFW generally supplement Miami operations, Znotins said.

In addition, American incorporates some other domestic routes to Miami from places like Little Rock, Ark., And Portland, Maine, to offer better connections with the South and Central American regions.

In addition to the new flights to Central and South America, American announced that it will launch a flight from Miami to Tel Aviv, Israel, in June.

Starting in June the airline will fly from DFW and New York to Tel Aviv.
