Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- With the Covid-19 pandemic, over a thousand businesses in the south of the state closed definitively in 2020, representing almost 8% of the members of the Canaco, revealed Jesús Sandoval Gaxiola.

The president of the Mazatlán Chamber of Commerce explained that the businesses most affected were small, not to mention that chain stores such as Famsa, Oxxos and McDonalds also closed their doors.

The businesses most affected are the small ones, we know that there are some large companies that have closed, two Famsa, one Macdonalds, 9 Oxxos, and dozens of businesses in the commercial centers that were badly hit by the issue of income,” he said.

Sandoval Gaxiola announced that in the first quarter of 2021 they will visit commerce for commerce in the municipality and the southern area to know their real situation and see how they can support them so that they can reactivate themselves and generate jobs.

He commented that due to the difficult situation experienced by the coronavirus health emergency, the payment of membership fees decreased. Of just over 13 thousand that were had in 2019, 2020 closed with 8 thousand 500.

“We are going to do the sweep to have a general overview of the businesses that are operating in the southern zone and have an analysis to be able to have real information on how they did and how they are doing this year,” he said.

The leader of the merchants acknowledged that when the Mazatlan International Carnival is canceled the economic situation will be difficult, however, there is an important date that will reactivate the destination, such as the Caribbean Series, and later Easter.

The application of health protocols must continue so that this is reactivated, businesses and the source of employment recover and everything returns to normal
