The company would start with a fleet of six ATR 72 aircraft.
The Zenith Aero company, in collaboration with EUD International Foundation CIC, plans the construction of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) workshop at the Chichén Itzá International Airport, in the state of Yucatán, as well as a charter airline that works with foreign and national tour operators.
In an exclusive interview with A21, Fernando Rodríguez, legal director of Zenith Aero, pointed out that during the first two months of 2021 they will begin the negotiations with the aeronautical authorities to obtain the necessary permits to establish an MRO and its air operator certificate.
“We would be processing the national and international charter permits for the transport of passengers in this mode. We do not have an area that we prefer to cover. We will be available to consumers, such as tour operators or other airlines, to cover any fligh” said Rodríguez.
To do so, Zenith Aero is in the process of obtaining its initial operating fleet, which would be made up of six ATR 72 aircraft. Later, an increase would be made with Airbus, said the company’s legal director.
The company is willing to carry out wet and dry leases, as well as alliances with European, American, Mexican, and Canadian tour operators.
“We are exploring international flights from Mexico, especially in the southeast, to Europe, the United States, and Canada. We have accounts from some tour operators that are encouraging us from Europe to connect with the Lesser and Greater Antilles, and the Chichén Itzá airport, in Kaua, is the ideal one. Kaua is a point that is between great tourist destinations such as Yucatán and Quintana Roo ”, the manager pointed out.
Why an MRO in Kaua?
Recently, EUD International Foundation, a UK-based foundation, and the Kaua municipality signed a mutual agreement of understanding for cooperation and social, cultural, and sports development.
The objective of this agreement is “to collaborate to improve the economy of the municipality and its inhabitants through the foundation of social capitalism program, which combines the development and promotion of highly profitable companies, favoring the well-being and economy of the communities where capital investments are carried out ”.
In this sense, EUD International and Zenith Aero have the first investment project, which is the installation of an aeronautical maintenance workshop at the municipality’s airport, specialized in serving Airbus and ATR aircraft.
Chichén Itzá Airport was built in 2000 and has remained with low numbers of passenger traffic, unable to compete with the Cancun and Mérida airports. It is currently managed by the CICLO company, which obtained the concession in 2016.
Regarding its possible links with Aeromar and Interjet, Fernando Rodríguez pointed out that Zenith Aero is an independent company, but he wants both airlines to remedy the adversities they face.
