San Cristóbal de Las Casas. The National Indigenous Congress-Indigenous Government Council and the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) convened the fifth national assembly of the CNI-CIG, to be held on January 23 and 24 in Quinta Piedra, territory recovered from the Nahua people. from the ejido Tepoztlán, Morelos.

In a joint statement, both organizations explained that the meeting has been called because they consider that “repression, threats, the formation of shock groups and the criminalization against the communities that resist the Morelos Comprehensive Project, which this bad federal government decided to impose, intensifying illegally and with the use of its armed shock group call the National Guard ”.

They added that “nevertheless, the heroic heritage of Samir Flores Soberanes remains alive in the sisters and brothers of the Front of Peoples in Defense of the Land and Water of Morelos, Puebla, and Tlaxcala who do not give up.”

They stated that “the war against the autonomous communities and the communities of original CNI in the state of Chiapas is intensifying, while the governments guarantee impunity for the paramilitary groups that, financed by them, attack the towns and villages day and night.

“The bad federal government, together with its armed forces, in its blatant alliance with the dark economic interests that bet to keep the territory of the indigenous and peasant peoples, is sowing fear and terror, cynically violating laws, judgments and judicial suspensions to impose their megaprojects, which hand over the country’s territory to transnational economic interests ”.

They affirmed that “resistance and rebellion are growing in the geography of indigenous peoples because dispossession and violent repression from the side of the bad government are also growing at all levels, in complicity with paramilitary groups and drug paramilitaries, which make their projects possible, extractive and polluting agents, and even in the big cities our towns resist as demonstrated by the Otomí community residing in Mexico City ”.

They added: “From the struggles that we are, the native peoples see that in the world hopes are lit for this war, which is the same, and from distant geographies, we turn to where we are, that is, towards the fight for life, which is becoming a language in which we see each other ”.

They recalled that “there is a Zapatista call to start a planetary journey in April 2021, starting on the European continent, to which the CNI is invited by means of the integration of a delegation to accompany this journey and carry our collective word.”

The CNI-CIG and the EZLN expressed that “the original peoples, nations, tribes, and neighborhoods that we are” are fighting against the “policies and megaprojects promoted by the neoliberal government of the Fourth Transformation, at the service of large global capital and against the autonomous organization of our peoples; all of the above with support for militarization, the implementation of the National Guard and the militarization of the entire national territory, the complicity of the State-criminal cartels, the creation of programs that seek to break the community organization such as Sembrando Vida and the approval of laws that is only favorable to large transnational consortiums such as the Federal Law for the Promotion and Protection of Native Corn ”.

They assured that “we hear ourselves in the voice of the native peoples, who shout from the geographies where they fight and resist against the capitalist war that disputes indigenous and peasant territories through aggressive extractive policies throughout the entire national geography”.

For our peoples, they remarked, “there is no room to surrender, sell ourselves or give up when mother earth and life are the ones that governments, companies, the military, and drug cartels want to have as loot from theft.”
