San Cristóbal de Las Casas.- In the vicinity of the Public Market Castillo Tiélemans in San Cristobal de las Casas, “Prostitution generates insecurity since many women who exercise this activity are molested and that could cause problems”, announced the leader of the Association of Traditional Markets of Chiapas (Almetrach), Narciso Ruiz Sántiz.

In an interview with the Administrative Unit, Ruiz Santiz commented that the problem with prostitution occurs in three hotels that are near to the market, which generates insecurity at night time, therefore they have asked the authorities to supervised this type of activities or even if it is possible to close down those hotels since the market is not a place for that activity.

“We are working, but the authorities cannot handle everything”.

Regarding the security of the market, Ruiz Sántiz said that they are acting the best they can, organizing the market tenants to stop whoever commits an offense and turn them over to the corresponding authorities.

In his opinion, the market lacks security cameras, which corresponds to the C-4 office from the State Government to maintain them. Finally, Ruis Santiz reported that they have watchmen that work three shifts, “the most complicated one is from 10 pm to 6 am, but we ask the police to make their rounds.”
