Oaxaca de Juárez.— Since she was little, Xiadani Ortiz Ramírez was clear that she liked catwalks
and modeling, although dedicating herself to it she saw as an almost impossible dream. Now, she is the first Oaxacan woman to win the Miss Teen México Continente 2020 pageant, an international pageant focused on adolescent women.

With this recognition, she trusts that little by little the doors will open for her to consolidate a modeling career, while continuing with her medical studies at the University of the Sierra Sur.

“I’ve been doing modeling and catwalks for a long time. But last year I had the opportunity to
participate in a contest that was the most beautiful flower in the field, but I did not win. However, there I met a director of beauty pageants who later invited me to participate in this and went to represent the state, “she says.

Before competing against women from other states in the country, she won the state contest
called Miss Teenager Oaxaca 2019 and which led her to the national competition that was held in
Mexico City, where she also triumphed in one of the four titles awarded.

But her efforts to break through into modeling began three years ago, in which, on her own account, she was approaching Oaxacan photographers and designers through her social networks, some of whom called her to dress and model their designs.

One of the first challenges was to overcome the incredulity of her parents, who said they saw it as “a guajiro dream” and also as something dangerous for their daughter because they related this work to crimes such as human trafficking and feared for her safety.

The second challenge was to transcend beyond Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, a municipality in the
Sierra Sur de Oaxaca, where she affirms that opportunities are few.

“From a very young age I have liked this about the catwalks and it was like a dream, of one day being a model and one day I want to be a beauty queen. It was almost impossible because many people from Miahuatlán do not jump into this because people from outside who are not from central Oaxaca are not given the same opportunities, “she explains.

Xiadani explains that in the Miss Teen México Continente 2020 contest the beauty of the adolescent who participates is rated, but mainly – he mentions – the intellect, personality, and desire to actively commit to a cause or charity and non-profit organization, already either in your country or internationally.

“What is described is beauty, but above all the integrity of the person, that is a complete person, it counts a lot that you study because it means that you are going to continue preparing, the way you develop in the public, the projection and what you can convey that you have a good message to give to society ”.

Currently, the young woman collaborates with Native Peoples, an organization dedicated to supporting Oaxacan artisans from all regions of the state.
