On November 7th, the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador canceled his tour to Nayarit and Sinaloa due to the floods in Tabasco generated by Hurricane Eta.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico rescheduled his visit to Sinaloa for November 21 and 22, after suspending his tour in the state, to attend the area affected by the floods caused by Hurricane Eta in his home state Tabasco.

The federal president had scheduled his visit to the south of Sinaloa, where he would attend to the long-standing problem of the Santa María dam, in the municipality of El Rosario, where this hydraulic work is being held, due to the conflict that maintains with the affected community members.

Emmett Soto Grave, Escuinapa municipal president, applauded that López Obrador decided to suspend his visit to Sinaloa, given the state of emergency in Tabasco. Therefore, he announced that his visit to Sinaloa and Nayarit has already been scheduled for the next 21 and 22 of this month.

“The suspension of the President’s visit to Sinaloa was the right thing to do since Tabasco is suffering a natural disaster and his decision to go there was correct,” said Soto Grave.

“The president visit to Sinaloa on November 21 and 22 is good news for our state, cause it shows the commitment that López Obrador has with Sinaloa, we must remember that the benefit of the dam is mostly for Escuinapa”.

He said that Quirino Ordaz Coppel, governor of Sinaloa, is expected to request support from the federal president to solve the conflict of the community members.

“The conflict that exists over the dam, I have heard that the governor (Quirino Ordaz) will discuss this issue with the president, to see how he could help us to unblock it because at the end of the day this is what has stopped this project of the construction of the dam, but I am sure that AMLO will contribute to solving the problem”, he emphasized.

Soto Grave concluded by saying that the Federal Government has the will and the money, the only thing missing is to solve the issue of the community members, which is what stops this hydraulic project, but let’s hope that the visit of President López Obrador will resolve the issue, so we can kick off this much-desired project in the south of Sinaloa.
