11 lost hikers rescued in Tlaxcala’s La Malinche park

Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala (November 11, 2020).- A group of 11 hikers, reported as missing in La Malinche National Park, were located and rescued by the Mountain Police of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC). 

The report to the emergency number 911 specified that the 11 people, five minors and six adults, went up hiking to La Malinche natural park, on the Puebla side of the mountain.

With these data, the Mountain Police began the search at 05:00 AM on Tuesday, November 11, and an hour and a half later notified they found the hikers in the place known as El Paramo.

After reviewing their health condition, they were given first aid, as well as blankets and warm fluids, and according to the official report, all were tired from walking all night, but in good health.

The group was taken to a safe point to rest and then they were transferred by ATVs from El Arenal to Las Escaleras, and later, by means of a Mountain unit (patrol car), they made the descent to the IMSS Shelter for medical attention.

Later the state government reported that the Mountain Police transferred the people with their families.

La Malinche, also known as Matlalcueye or Malintzin, is an active volcano (dormant for the last 3,100 years) located in the states of Tlaxcala and Puebla in Mexico. Officially, its summit reaches 4,461 metres (14,636 ft) above sea level.
