Aguascalientes, Ags (November 10, 2020).- The industrial activity index for July was 114 points in the state of Aguascalientes, which was above the levels of the previous four months.

However, compared to July 2019, the index was 6.8% lower, although this year-on-year drop was much lower than those that occurred from March to June. In March, the decrease was 19.6%; from 51.8% in April; from 52.7% in May; and 19.7% in June.

INEGI’s Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity by Federal Entity (IMAIEF) is defined from the evolution of mining, construction, manufacturing industry and generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy, and the supply of water and gas through pipelines to the final consumer.

Compared to the previous months, the four sectors improved their performance in the state of Aguascalientes, although only two had an advance in July against the same month of 2019. The latter happened in mining, which had a year-on-year increase of 27.4 %, as well as in the generation of energy, water and gas, where the increase was 0.5%.

In July, construction fell 9.7% compared to a year earlier. This contraction was less pronounced than in any of the first six months of 2020, when its evolution was: January (-12.2%), February (-11.6%), March (-21.8%), April (-22.9% ), May (-12.7%) and June (-13%).

Manufacturing industries contracted 6.3% in Aguascalientes in July versus a year earlier. It was a drop that was much lower than those of the previous four months: March (-19.6%), April (-65.6%), May (-66.2%), and June (-22.3%).

In the first seven months of 2020, the industrial activity of Aguascalientes was lower than in a similar period of 2019 by 22.2%.

This decrease was because although mining advanced 5.3% and electricity, water and gas generation grew 2.7%, such increases were not enough to offset the 14.9% drop in construction and the 25.9% drop in manufacturing industries.
