Mayan Train will enter Guatemala through Chiapas

With a total of 164 kilometers from Escuintla, close to the Guatemalan capital, to the border with Mexico, the Maya Train will feature a section within the neighboring Central American country, which of course will be financed and managed by the government of Guatemala.

According to Diario del Sur, in order to have greater commercialization of products and greater exports, Guatemala will have a train line that will connect with the Maya Train in Chiapas, Mexico.

Alejandro Giammattei Falla, president of Guatemala, hopes to sign an agreement with Andrés Manuel López Obrador, before the end of the year, to unite the Mayan Train with the project called the Fast Train of Guatemala (TRG), which will run through the 22 departments of the country and the main ports and customs.

“Hopefully, we will sign the agreement this year. The train from Mexico will connect with Guatemala and the first line would be built by an English company, ”said Giammattei.

The Guatemalan authorities remain certain that the project will cross the Rodolfo Robles border bridge, which connects Tecún Umán with Ciudad Hidalgo, a point where the sleepers have served as a refuge for migrants who advance in large and numerous caravans and have entered Mexico through this international passage in Guatemala.

Despite the announcement by the Guatemalan president, the return of the train in the country remains uncertain, because the project is not yet on the agenda.

In addition, private investment has announced the project to return the train to the southern Mexican border, in a sequence that would unite Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, exactly what Giammattei refers to as the “Mexican Train.”
