Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- The country’s tourist destinations have had to lower the prices of their hotels by up to 60 percent, to attract the national market and maintain their competitiveness, commented the hotel businessman, Carlos Berdegué Sacristán.

The Vice President of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies mentioned that it is the beaches of Mexico that have to compete with each other, seeing little or no foreign tourism due to the pandemic.

“The hotel industry lowered rates more or less as of July by 60 percent, in order to attract those people to return to Mazatlán, because we are competing against Vallarta, Ixtapa, Acapulco and we have been able to attract more influx of people, but with very low rates ”, he declared.

In addition, Berdegué Sacristán pointed out that hoteliers have had to spend very high budgets due to the implementation of sanitary protocols and the expense that has resulted from the tourist promotion campaigns of the destination, estimating that up to 9 million pesos have been spent on promotion, in addition of what the Ministry of Tourism contributes.
