At least 20 people have been attacked and five murdered during this 2020; the last was Violeta, found lifeless in a vacant lot in Copoya, Chiapas.
In a peaceful protest, the LGBTTTI community in Chiapas asked society to stop the attacks and demanded that the State Congress intervene in the recognition, protection and defense of their rights.
Wearing black clothing, they placed a coffin at the entrance to the legislative palace and one by one, they gave voice to the cases of aggressions in the different municipalities of Chiapas, highlighting Tapachula, Tuxtla Gutiérrrez and San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
“This year has been a very difficult year for all people due to the health emergency that we are experiencing, however, violence due to sexual orientation and gender identity has been permanent,” declared one of the participants.
Only in January, four attacks were registered in the state of Chiapas, in one of the cases the trans woman lost her life. The violence continued in May and escalated this month. The organization claims that there have been 20 attacks and five murders so far this year in the state, although they do not rule out that the number could be higher.
