The Airbnb hosting platform released the results of a survey conducted with hosts and guests in Mexico, which shows the dynamics of the community in the country and the positive economic effects it generates for all Mexicans.

During 2019, travelers who stayed in a destination in the country using the platform, incurred expenses of more than 2,800 million dollars, the result of the sum of the expenses that guests made in restaurants, transport, services, shops, and lodging in the towns they visited.

According to the survey, 82% recommended restaurants or cafes; 63% cultural sites or activities; 56% suggested outdoor activities; 49% places not so well known among tourists, and 36% supported local businesses with their recommendations.

” Airbnb’s Mexican hosts have one of the highest ratings on the platform: 80% of them have 5-star reviews, which shows the warmth and hospitality of the service they provide,” the company said in a statement.

Ángel Terral, director of Airbnb in Mexico, commented that the platform has contributed to the economic development of the country through its community of hosts and travelers, thus reaffirming the commitment that more people can obtain an extra income in difficult times.

Likewise, he said that as a consequence of the pandemic, travelers are currently seeking to travel close to home, that is, destinations near and accessible by car within 500 km.
