The investment for this iconic megaproject of the AMLO administration remains at 75 billion pesos, according to the president’s statement.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported this Friday, October, 16th that the construction of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Santa Lucía is 40% complete, and indicated that the commitment to inaugurate it on March 21, 2022, is maintained.

The budget for the new airport remains at 75 billion pesos, stated the president.

“There were those who doubted that the project would be finished in time. I believe that now there is evidence that progress is being made and that we will have the work completed and also the accesses to this international airport by March 2022,” added the head of the Executive.

During the supervision of the work in Zumpango de Ocampo, State of Mexico, he verified “how the housing units, schools, hospitals, recreational centers are being built, both for the military personnel, their families and also for the inhabitants of these municipalities” from Edomex, from Hidalgo and also for those who live in Mexico City.

The president pointed out that the commander of the group of engineers at the Santa Lucía air base and the project’s resident engineer, Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, told him that in February of next year the military complex will be inaugurated, including the runway for the Air Force.

For his part, Vallejo Suárez pointed out that, 366 days after starting the works, the project has a real physical progress of 40.1 percent, which is slightly higher than scheduled; and a financial expense of 27.01 percent, also well below the estimated cost.

“We still have 520 days to fulfill the mission and deliver the fully completed project,” AMLO said.

“This important work is currently generating 46,227 direct jobs”, the president concluded.
