Good nutrition, key to avoid serious COVID-19 pictures

● In patients with COVID-19, a diet that includes all the food groups is recommended to speed recovery.

● Yesterday 741 positive cases and 29 deaths were reported due to the SARS-CoV-2 infection in the State.

This October 16, World Food Day, the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ) reiterates that balanced nutrition in patients with COVID-19 is essential to reduce the risk of presenting a serious disease, accelerate recovery and avoid the disnutrition.

Along with the medications that COVID-19 patients receive, adequate nutrition is essential and plays a very important role during the care process.

Patients should receive a balanced diet, that is, one that includes all food groups through a plan that adjusts to the specific requirements of each patient, after evaluating their nutritional status so that the eating plan is as efficient as possible.

Fruits, vegetables, cereals, legumes, derived from milk, proteins of animal origin, are key to providing the body with essential nutrients during convalescence from COVID-19.

Although food is very important for recovery from the disease, the SJS emphasizes that the best way to prevent contagion is by respecting voluntary isolation, healthy distance, and the use of a mask.

The SSJ reiterates the call not to lower our guard and to adopt preventive measures to take care of ourselves and vulnerable groups. At home, hygiene and sanitation must be ensured, both of the home and of the residents when they return home after doing some activity outside. People confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection should try to isolate themselves from other members of the household.

If you go out into the public space, it is recommended that it be for a short time, use the mask properly (which can reduce the risk of contagion by up to 90 percent), avoid crowds -especially in closed spaces-, maintain a distance of 1.5 meters between people, and wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol gel.

It is also very important to be alert to the presence of symptoms such as a fever that does not subside, shortness of breath or to register an oxygen saturation lower than 92 percent, and to go immediately to a medical unit, without waiting for the result of a laboratory test to SARS-CoV-2.

Today Jalisco reported 741 new infections of COVID-19, detected thanks to the RADAR System, with which 81,362 confirmed cases have accumulated, since last March – when the first sick person in the State was notified – to date.

Jalisco reported 29 more deaths today due to the new coronavirus disease. Not all the reported deaths occurred in a single day, but may have occurred several days ago, but until now they have been notified by the different institutions to the SISVER platform.

Of these deaths, 3,562 correspond to residents of 104 municipalities in Jalisco; and 83 to residents of other entities of the country who died in Jalisco territory.

MUNICIPALITIES

To date, 124 of the 125 municipalities of Jalisco have confirmed cases; Of these, 84 municipalities with active cases are reported, that is, those with SARS-CoV-2 positive people who started with symptoms of the disease in the last fourteen days.

Today no municipality was added to the list of Jalisco territories with confirmed cases.

Adding up the negative results reported by all the laboratories, in Jalisco 170,257 cases have been ruled out to date.

This day there are 3 thousand 602 active cases in Jalisco (people who started with symptoms in the last 14 days).

In Jalisco, there are 58,536 people recovered from COVID-19 who met the federal and international guidelines to declare their recovery.

Of those affected accumulated to date, 51 percent are men and 49 percent are women. Regarding age groups, the most affected are those from 30 to 34 years old with 12.9 percent, those from 35 to 39 years old with 11.9 percent, those from 25 to 29 years old with 12.7 percent, and those 65 years and over with 10.6 percent.

In the group of girls, boys, and adolescents there are 1,198 confirmed cases in children from zero to 15 years old, which represents 1.5 percent of the total accumulated positive cases.

Of the total confirmed cases in Jalisco, to date, 90 percent are outpatients (treated in isolation at home) due to having mild to moderate symptoms or being asymptomatic and 10 percent have required hospitalization for COVID-19.

HEALTH PERSONNEL

So far, 985 positive cases for SARS-CoV-2 have been registered among health personnel (two new cases were reported today), whose contagion is associated with care provided in medical units. By municipality, the total of these cases is distributed as follows: Puerto Vallarta (208), Guadalajara (591), Ocotlán (10), Tepatitlán (55), Colotlán (three), Zapopan (21), Ciudad Guzmán (16), Tala (six), San Juan de los Lagos (five), Lagos de Moreno (five), Autlán (47), San Pedro Tlaquepaque (four), Ameca (seven), Tlajomulco de Zúñiga (four) and Mezquitic (three).
