The 2020 edition of the Livestock Fair of Querétaro will be impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, so alternatives are being studied to carry out some activities virtually, as well as the viability of carrying out the livestock exhibition in person.

Querétaro, Qro. The 2020 edition of the Livestock Fair of Querétaro will be impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, so alternatives are being studied to carry out some activities virtually, as well as the viability of carrying out the livestock exhibition in person.

The president of the Regional Livestock Union of Querétaro (UGRQ) -the organization that coordinates the fair-, Alejandro Ugalde Tinoco, highlighted that genetics sellers have been the most affecting link in this livestock sector because their sales even fell 100%; For this reason, he added, the possibility that only the exhibition can be carried out will be studied together with the State Secretariat of Health, an activity that, he said, is the main reason for the fair.

“Within what is the activity or the livestock industry, there is someone who has been more vulnerable, they are those who sell genetics, those who seek to do better with less and see how to produce more; they had a showcase every year to display their animals within the livestock exhibition and they have decreased, I think almost 100% their sales, they hope that this exhibition can be held to be able to sell their copies ”, he explained.

The businessman ruled out that this year activities take place in the town’s theater and in palenque, so one possibility that is being analyzed is to hold virtual concerts.

The planning of the fair takes place throughout the year, to materialize in December; Therefore, three scenarios have been studied: the first was to carry it out in a normal way, which has been discarded; the second is to have a basic setting of livestock and commercial exhibitors, and the third is to have a livestock exhibition and virtual activities.

“We depend mainly on the State Secretary of Health, to dictate what we can and cannot do; we depend on the epidemiological traffic light; we will have a visit by the Ministry of Health and we will see what they tell us, “he said.

Alejandro Ugalde explained that there is also the possibility of generating virtual platforms to carry out animal auctions.

“We understand the reality, we are not going to expose people and we are not going to complicate the Ministry of Health either. What we want is to give a different alternative, we will even manage virtual platforms to be able to perhaps do some animal auctions or even concerts, I’m already talking about this with the company that sponsors us, that they can give us virtual concerts, “he said.

In the 2020 edition, the expectation was to receive more than 700,000 visitors and an economic benefit of 220 million pesos.
