Javier Duarte, former governor of Veracruz who is currently in prison for the crimes of criminal association and money laundering, gave a Ferrari to former President Enrique Peña Nieto, according to Emilio Lozoya’s statements, part of his complaint to the Attorney General’s Office.

The car keys were delivered directly by Duarte to Peña Nieto before he got on the presidential plane after a tour of Veracruz, Lozoya said.

«The then governor of the state, Javier Duarte, approached him on the steps of the presidential plane and handed a folder to the president (…).

When we got on the presidential plane, Enrique Peña Nieto told us: “Look what the “góber” gave me,” showing us the photos of a Ferrari with the text “This Ferrari belonged to President Adolfo López Mateos,” and the car keys were inside the folder too. Enrique Peña Nieto handed the folder to an assistant and asked the on-board waiter to open a couple of bottles of Vega Sicilia (wine) to celebrate this successful tour, ” declared the former director of Pemex in his complaint.

Lozoya added that he was aware of the relationship between Peña Nieto and Duarte, in which the former Secretary of the Treasury, Luis Videgaray, was also involved.

Lozoya also mentioned that Peña Nieto had a warehouse somewhere with a lot of different items, and he was planning a “Museo del Presidente” (Museum of the president). The Ferrari was taken there, according to Lozoya’s statements.

Of course, all this scandal is pure oxygen for the AMLO administration, as nobody is talking about the more than 55 thousand deaths due to the virus, about the millions of unemployed Mexicans, or the terrible economic situation our country is going through. But instead, the low-income social sector in Mexico is mesmerized by the way AMLO is “fighting corruption”.
