Jet Ski accident leaves three dead in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora

PUERTO PEÑASCO, SONORA.- A jet ski accident left three people dead and one more diagnosed with drowning due to submersion in events that occurred in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora.

Around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16th, an accident in La Choya Bay was reported to the emergency number in which originally two people allegedly fell from a jet ski and were apparently drowning.

Immediately a Red Code was activated and the Red Cross, Municipal Police, Secretary of the Navy, and State Coordination of Civil Protection were informed.

Upon arrival, the authorities reported two people dead, one lost and one who was rescued, who underwent cardiopulmonary breathing maneuvers.

The rescued young woman goes by the name of Viviana Sánchez, 23, who was transferred to receive medical attention at the General Hospital where she was diagnosed with drowning by submersion.

It transpired by a witness named Alma that when she was in the company of her husband named Cruz Domingo, 49, and her brother-in-law Óscar, 47, on the beach, they observed that a couple who were riding a jet ski suffered a fall and they did not bring protective equipment.

Cruz and Óscar came to the aid of those affected, managing to bring Viviana to the shore, and later they went in search of the other person.

After three hours of searching, staff of the Fire Department found the body of the missing person at approximately 7:00 p.m. at sea, whose identity was not confirmed.
