With the figures updated daily by the Ministry of Health in Quintana Roo, it could be ensured that the incidence of infections and deaths in the entity during the last month have not decreased and on the contrary, there have been sessions with almost 100 new positives a day, which represents an imminent risk of turning red at the epidemiological traffic light, initially in Cancun, the epicenter of the pandemic throughout the Yucatan peninsula, with more than 2,000 cases.

The incidence of infections and deaths in the entity during the last month have not decreased, on the contrary, there have been days with almost 100 new positives a day

The spokesman for the Quintana Roo Economic Reactivation Plan, Carlos Orvañanos, stated that Cancun is the first city to be a “candidate” to return to red at the Regional Epidemiological Traffic Light, followed by Othón P. Blanco, where a significant increase in the number of infections, just entered the new normal.

The official explained to hotel businessmen, restaurateurs, and public transport concessionaires that there has been a significant increase in the number of Covid-19 infections, a situation that was not foreseen, since it was expected that with the entry into the new normal, all the citizenship was going to respect the new rules, however, it did not happen that way and today there is a rebound in the number of cases.

“Cancun is the first city that is candidates to step back at the state epidemiological traffic light. And is that if there is no personal and collective responsibility to maintain sanitary security measures during the resumption of activities phase, more radical measures will have to be applied, including returning to the red light at the traffic light, ”he said.

Average of 50 infections per day

Although economic reactivation is urgent for everyone, it must be done gradually and responsibly, since until last week the average number of contagions is 50 per day, which is a latent risk for all citizens.

According to information provided by the entity’s governor, Carlos Joaquín González, tourist occupancy, which started at 3%, now stands at 20% and is expected to reach 30% by the end of the month, but if it does not respect the health safety protocols, could be reversed.

In health matters, the report on the evolution of the Covid-19 coronavirus indicates that the state has more than 3,000 accumulated positive cases and more than 500 deaths.

Although a slight decrease in the number of infections was noted at the end of May, which led to the decreeing the orange traffic light throughout the entity, for June there was a significant rebound, which today has Cancun and Chetumal at risk of returning at the red light.

Cancun, in the northern part of the state, has more than two thousand cases and 400 deaths, with a risk of contagion of 1, but with increasing cases.

Bureaucrats may not return this July 1

Although, it was foreseen that the workers of the state government would return to their face-to-face activities on July 1, the date could be modified due to the increase in the number of infections in Chetumal and Cancun, which account for 70 percent of the workforce of the bureaucrats.

The Secretary General of the Federation of Trade Unions of Workers at the Service of the State Government (FSTSGE), Roberto Poot Vázquez, explained that at least 20 percent of state workers have been in office since the first week of June, however, the remaining 80 percent would be gradually incorporated into their positions, as of July 1, a situation that may no longer happen.

The union leader said that the general services personnel, in charge of the inspection of works and shops, as well as those related to public works; They returned to their face-to-face activities in June and that although the rest were about to return, today there is the possibility that Chetumal and Cancun will fall back to a red light and it would be a risk to expose the bureaucrats, by making them return to their jobs.

While an official position is being announced, he announced that they are working in coordination with the Senior Official so that the return is made in safe conditions, both for employees and for citizens.

In Chetumal they also do not guarantee labor return

After 14 days away from their jobs, due to the three positive cases among its workers, the Othón P. Blanco City Council plans to resume its activities on July 1, for which reason it has already implemented an emerging disinfection campaign for the Municipal Palace. However, today it will be determined whether this plan will be followed up or reversed given the high rate of contagion in Chetumal, which has even positioned itself second in the state, just below Cancún.

In number of infections, today Othón P. Blanco is above Solidaridad and in second position below Benito Juárez; and although the municipality is in orange within the state sanitary traffic light, Governor Carlos Joaquín González recognized the risk of returning to the color red.

It was also reported that today, Monday, the sanitary protocol that will be implemented to avoid the programming of the virus will be presented, so that there could be a change in the return of personnel to the Chetumal city council.

Although the municipality suspended activities in areas considered non-essential, 30 percent of the staff remained active. Among them, three positive cases and four more suspicious cases were detected on June 12, when the municipal authority announced the total suspension of activities for 14 days, a term that expires on July 1.

Today the communiqué of said protocol will be formally announced, with the guidelines that all areas must follow. It is worth mentioning that the work will be distributed in two shifts and customer service is carried out electronically.
