Los Cabos Is Second Mexican Destination To Get Safe Travels Seal
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has given Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, its stamp of approval for hygiene and sanitary measures the popular tourist destination has adopted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the municipality, home to San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, remains under coronavirus restrictions. Beaches, ports, hotels, restaurants, and all non-essential businesses remain closed.
The region is the second destination in Mexico to receive the WTTC’s Safe Travels stamp, which is designed to boost travelers’ confidence in hotels, restaurants, airports, and recreational facilities.
Gloria Guevara Manzo, president and CEO of the WTTC, said the Safe Travels seal and hygiene protocols are based on international standards and have the support of the United Nations World Tourism Organization and some 200 CEOs in the travel business.
Baja California Sur Governor Carlos Mendoza Davis said “it is an honor to include our state in the list of destinations with the [travel seal]. We strongly support protocols for the health care of travelers, it is our main commitment.”
“In Baja California Sur we promote the reactivation of the tourism industry under strict hygiene and sanitation measures, in order to protect the health of our people and those who dress us,” said Governor Carlos Mendoza Davis, after announcing that Los Cabos became the first destination in the Mexican Pacific to receive the Travel Safety Stamp, which is granted by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) to destinations that adopt its protocols and sanitary guidelines.
Mendoza Davis pointed out that it is an honor that the State obtains this important distinction, adding that it will contribute to repositioning BCS in the main markets worldwide as a safe and trustworthy destination, since he said, this seal is based on international standards and they have the backing of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in coordination with more than 200 representatives of the main business groups in the field in the world.
Likewise, he added that it will give travelers certainty of the commitment of the companies that make up the sector (hotels, restaurants, establishments, airlines, airports and cruises, among other activities related to tourism), with quality and safety before the new normality, derived from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Baja California Sur is preparing to welcome visitors with open arms, and ready to contribute to the process of reopening tourism in our country. We are certain that tourism is a source of employment and economic growth for local trade and other productive sectors, in addition to encouraging social development, which is why we work under serious policies and in accordance with the rest of the world, to guarantee that its reactivation is successful, but above all safe, “said the Baja California Governor.
Finally, Carlos Mendoza recalled that through the Ministry of Tourism, Economy, and Sustainability (SETUES) he directs, Luis Humberto Araiza López, the “Clean Point” quality seal is promoted, through which it seeks to certify 600 related companies to activity, such as healthy and safe places. “BCS has a responsible tourist activity, those who visit us can have the peace of mind that they will be as cared for as in their homes,” concluded the governor.
For her part, the president and CEO of the WTTC, Gloria Guevara Manzo, stressed that Los Cabos is the quintessential destination of great luxury in the Mexican Pacific, where millions of travelers, especially from the North American region, gather, who now they can be certain that they have the necessary hygiene protocols so that they can enjoy their trip with an absolute peace of mind.
Baja California Sur offers visitors incredible destinations such as Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo, Loreto, La Paz, Todos Santos and the greatness of the Sea of Cortez, with its great natural wealth, a formidable climate and unique gastronomy, which as a whole they form a great travel experience ”, concluded Guevara Manzo.
In 2019, the state welcomed more than 4 million tourists.
The protocols were developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the International Air Transport Association, the Airport Council International, and the Cruise Lines International Association.
Cancún and the Mexican Caribbean was the first destination in the Americas to receive the stamp. Cities in Turkey, Bulgaria, Jamaica, Mauritius, Canada, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia have also adopted the WTTC’s protocols, and industry experts are hopeful that tourism can rebound in the second half of 2020.
