Chiapas. May 25.- As of June 1, owners of about a hundred restaurants, including bars, cafes, taquerias, and other establishments in San Cristóbal de las Casas that closed for almost two months, agreed to reopen their businesses, despite the daily increase of the Coronavirus cases, due to the fact that they have not received financial support, pantries, or any benefit from the government.

“We have been 56 days with our businesses completely closed, so if we do not have an immediate favorable response to the support requested on five occasions, we will reopen on June 1 with the usual hours ,  announced Oscar Vicente Ortega Hernández, leader of the Association. of Bars and Restaurants of San Cristóbal for Social Justice.

He pointed out that they are going to take all the sanitary measures to avoid infections “because we can no longer continue without working and without receiving support.”

In a press conference, the leader said that the restaurateurs, we agreed to request again the financial support and pantries from the municipal president, Jerónima Toledo Villalobos, “because it is already fair and necessary that they send us something.”

After holding a meeting, with the participation of about a hundred people, the restaurateurs stated: “We want our requests to be heard. We have been very peaceful; We do not want to act with violence or close streets, but we demand that they attend to us. ”

Ortega Hernández indicated that if the authorities give them financial support and hardly, they would postpone the reopening of their businesses for 15 days, since every day the cases of Covid-19 in the entity increase, but “we need to open now.”

He said that they understand the current situation, therefore, to avoid contagions, they will take all the sanitary security measures, such as reducing the tables in restaurants, “if you have 10 months, work with five, in addition to the staff using face masks, antibacterial gel will be available for customers and the premises will be sanitized. The only thing we want is for something to start falling. “

The leader of the restaurateurs said that “it is not rebellion, but the need to work to obtain income due to the economic crisis that we are going through since we have to pay rent for the premises, electricity and other expenses.”

The owners of these establishments made the announcement a day after the municipal and health authorities agreed to increase security measures to various negotiations dedicated to non-essential activities, to close them, due to the increase in coronavirus infections.

Chiapas started the week with 64 new Covid 19 patients, having a cumulative of 1,228 cases located in 72 of the 125 municipalities, in addition to 94 deaths.
