The number of foreign passengers transported during the month of April decreased by 99.5% compared to the same month last year, that is, only 7,349 international passengers were mobilized by ASUR, at the Cancun International Airport.

In 2019, more than 1.5 million passengers were mobilized during April, which shows the inactivity that has been generated as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regarding national passengers, the difference was -92.2% when mobilizing 57 thousand 968 passengers. In the global total, the loss was 97.1%. On a common day, there are currently between 20 and 30 operations, while in 2019 they reached 600 operations a day.

So far this year, that is, the first 4 months, the loss has been 32.5% in passenger traffic in Cancun, and in the sum of all its airports, 30.4%

Despite the dramatic numbers in Mexico, it is not the most noticeable drop for the Southeast ASUR Airport Group, this was in Colombia where the airports were closed and the loss was 99.9%

As announced on March 23, 2020, neither Mexico nor Puerto Rico has issued flight restrictions to date. In Puerto Rico, the FAA has accepted a request from the Governor of Puerto Rico that all flights to Puerto Rico land at LMM Airport, operated by ASUR’s subsidiary, Aerostar, and that all passengers be controlled by representatives of the Puerto Rico Department of Health. As a result, the LMM airport remains open and operational, albeit with substantially reduced passenger volumes. Mexico and / or the United States may issue flight restrictions similar to those issued in other parts of the world, which would cause a significant additional reduction in our operations.

Furthermore, in Colombia, Decree 439 issued by the Government on March 20, 2020, suspended all incoming international flights, including connecting flights, for 30 days from 12:01 am on Monday, March 23, 2020. In addition, Decree 457 issued on March 22, 2020, forced preventive isolation, as well as the suspension of national air travel between March 25 and April 13, 2020. On April 8, decree 531 was issued and was given the suspension of domestic transport by air from zero hours (00:00 am) on April 13, 2020, until zero hours (00:00 am) on April 27, 2020. Likewise, the On April 24, the government issued a new decree 593 where domestic air transport was suspended from zero hours (00:00 am) on April 27, 2020, until zero hours (00:00 am) on May 11, 2020. Except for humanitarian emergencies, cargo and merchandise transport and acts of God or force majeure
