Mazatlán, Sinaloa, In the framework of the World Day of Creativity and Innovation, Pesca Azteca, a company with more than 35 years of experience in fishing and marketing of tuna and the largest tuna fleet in the world tells us about its Start-Stop project.

The Start-Stop system has been used in automobiles since 1983. It consists of an electromechanical system for automatically starting and stopping the engine to reduce its use at idle. Pesca Azteca is breaking paradigms by implementing an innovative Start-Stop system on its vessels, generating high fuel savings and reducing emissions to the environment without precedent.

The Global Carbon Atlas platform announced that Mexico is in the list of the 15 countries in the world with the highest emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the last 20 years, that is why, we gave ourselves the task of implementing an ambitious project to reduce emissions from our vessels since, being the largest tuna fleet in the world, the decrease in this sense serves as a great contribution in environmental terms

Therefore, to improve the environmental impact, it is important to start with the reduction of carbon emissions emitted by our vessels, therefore, the objective set in 2019 was 378.56 tCO2 with the system implemented in 12 vessels, managing to reduce 431.03 tCO2. 113% vs. what they had projected in the year.

By 2020, its commitment is to implement the system on all vessels in order to reduce CO2 emissions 1,072.82 Tons.

Likewise, the Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR) granted them the International Certificate for the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea by Hydrocarbons.

The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) is the main international convention on the prevention of pollution of the marine environment by ships from operating or accidental factors. This Convention contains rules aimed at preventing and reducing pollution caused by ships.

It currently includes six annexes, among which is the question of the prevention of oil pollution as a consequence of operational measures.

Each and every one of Pesca Azteca‘s commitments is based on its convictions as a company; respect for people, the community in which we operate, the environment and the future of the world, are the basis of their shared value and social responsibility. All of the above in strict adherence and alignment to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) set by the UN
