The Government of Mexico acknowledged that the coronavirus represents a “national emergency”, so it has accelerated the application of resources to address the crisis and its effects on the economy, said Alfonso Romo, head of the Office of the President.

“We cannot accept bureaucracies, we are in a national emergency. We cannot be with the permission left or not. The cabinet has closed ranks and we are preparing a plan to accelerate everything that is already approved, which is stopped for processing. We cannot accept anything to stop because we are experiencing an emergency, ”he said.

His statements contradict the arguments of the Ministry of Health, which has insisted that there are no conditions to declare an emergency because the five cases recognized by the federal government have been “imported”, being related to trips to Northern Italy.

However, Romo reported yesterday that he has met with the various Secretaries of State to ask them to eliminate the bureaucratic barriers that impede the effective application of public resources.

“This we do not control. What we do know is that there is a severe economic impact with the announcement of China, which is in recession, and there will be a rearrangement of value chains. We do know that, so what we have to do is how we capture those opportunities for Mexico. ”

The chief of staff argued that the coronavirus crisis can become an opportunity for economic growth in Mexico. “Why? Because these days we have received many visits from investment bankers, banks, industrial and technological companies because they are thinking of rearranging their value chains. ”

38 suspected cases of Coronavirus in Mexico

Confirmed cases remain in five; Health authorities reported that four states have not alerted suspected cases by Covid-19: Campeche, Guerrero, Nayarit, and Tlaxcala

The number of suspects for coronavirus Covid-19 increased to 38  after Monday 21 possible cases were reported, confirmed the head of the Coordinating Commission of National Institutes of Health and High Specialty Hospitals, Gustavo Reyes Terán; and the general director of Epidemiology, José Luis Alomía Zegarra.

At a press conference, members of the health sector reported that the cases confirmed by Covid-19 remain in five; however, they noted, none is considered as serious.

In 28 entities of the 32 of the Republic, there is at least one suspected case with Covid-19, among the states that there are no cases are: Campeche, Guerrero, Nayarit and Tlaxcala, the director-general of Epidemiology reported.

For his part, Reyes Terán said that Mexico maintains the transmission link, so there is no scenario of community dispersion .

Likewise, it was indicated that 13 Mexicans from different countries have been repatriated, who have not presented symptoms of the disease; Most come from Italy.

As of Tuesday, 76 possible cases of Covid-19 have been ruled out in Mexico , said Alomía Zegarra.

One of them is a 44-year-old woman, who on Tuesday went to the General Hospital of Mexico with mild symptoms of the disease,  and during the conference confirmed that the result was negative.

Alomía Zegarra said that of the five cases confirmed so far, three are men and two women. Everybody; However, they have remained stable and remain at home.

The contingency opens an opportunity for Mexico: Luis De la Calle

Mexico may be the antidote against the negative impact caused by the coronavirus, so it must be seized and sold to global investors, said the former official of the Ministry of Economy, Luis de la Calle.

Prior to a meeting with local businessmen, organized by the Consultative Council for Innovation, Growth and Sustainable Development (Coincydes), the ex-negotiator of the Free Trade Agreement said that Mexico has an opportunity to develop if it “puts the batteries.”

He said that the most pressing thing is to increase the attractiveness for investment towards Mexico and to do so both nationally and internationally. “Jalisco also has an opportunity to become attractive to investors, and you have to become attractive before economic problems get worse because once they are already acute it is very difficult,” he said.

He suggested that Mexico’s appeal be detonated as an energy competitive country, with an open market and taking advantage of lower natural gas prices.

César de Anda Molina, Coincydes coordinator, said that the National Infrastructure Plan and how to tie those plans with Jalisco projects were also discussed. “See how we can potentiate the issue of energy policy here in Jalisco. Our interest is to take advantage of the opportunity that is presented now that Jalisco will have more supply of natural gas with four tributaries that will be arriving in the coming months. ”
