The New York Times places La Paz among the 52 destinations in the world that must be visited in 2020

According to the top “52 places to go in 2020”, carried out by The New York Times, there is a destination in Baja California Sur that should be visited during the year, which was highlighted by sustainable development; It was the only place in Mexico that appeared in the ranking.   

The capital of Baja California Sur is positioned at site number 18, below Egypt and above Grand Isle, Louisiana, United States, according to the list issued by the US media. 

In its section, La Paz stands out for being one of the oldest and most dynamic cities in the region, which has “resisted resort-style large-scale development,” which remains unknown to foreigners. 

In addition, the emphasis was placed on areas that have become a Marine World Heritage protected area of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO ), including, the Espiritu Santo and La Partida islands.

They aim to preserve the coast and coastal areas, home of the great biodiversity that exists in the Sea of ​​Cortez, known as the Aquarium of the World, refers. 

On the other hand, the policy of banning single-use plastic was recognized, which began to take effect from 2019 and will begin to be applied in several places in Mexico throughout 2020. 

Similarly, the various renovations that were made on the boardwalk, including the bike path, the skate park, sculptures and fountains “that illustrate local marine life”, came to light. 

At the end of 2020, the first property of the Habita Group, operator of boutique hotels in Mexico will open La Casa de las Perlas, which will have 32 rooms in La Paz, incorporating a building from the 1910s. 

It is appropriate to mention that, The New York Times is one of the most widely distributed American newspapers worldwide; which he has won more than 120 awards Pulitzer from 1851 to 2018.

It should be noted that, in the ranking of the 52 places to go in 2020, La Paz was the only destination in Baja California Sur and Mexico that figured inside. Washington took the first position.
