Sinaloa tourism grew 19% in 2019

Mazatlan.- During 2019, Sinaloa recorded the arrival of 4.73 million tourists, of which 81 percent were national and 19 percent international, which represented an increase of 19 percent compared to 2018, said the Tourism Secretary Óscar Pérez Barros, who added that the tourist economic spill was for the order of 32 billion pesos, representing an increase of 13 percent.

After announcing the above in a press conference, in which he reported on the results obtained in tourism during 2019, he mentioned that of the total tourist arrivals, 81 percent were national and 19 percent international.

The commitment of this administration headed by the Governor of the State, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, said, was to reach 4 million tourists, which was achieved, exceeding it with that 19 percent, in something that Mazatlan was consolidated as the most important destination in the entity, he said.

The head of the Sectur commented that from 2017 to 2019 it has grown by 46 percent in the arrival of tourists, taking into account that 2016 received 3.2 million.

Regarding the December season, average occupations of 90 percent were achieved in the entity, with an economic spill of 980 million pesos, and in Mazatlan, there were records of 96 to 100 percent occupancy.

With regard to Mazatlan, it was visited by more than 3.3 million travelers, thereby increasing by 22 percent, also in relation to 2018.

Regarding connectivity, there was passenger traffic of 4 million in the three airports of the state (Culiacán, Mazatlán and Los Mochis), increasing 11.2 percent compared to the previous one. In the case of Mazatlan, we reached one million passengers a month earlier, which gives us the idea that we are doing well, said Tourism Secretary Óscar Pérez Barros.

As regards cruises, by 2020 156 are confirmed; In 2019, 129 arrived with 385 thousand passengers, and by 2020 we expect more than 500 thousand, he said, adding that 12 cruises are expected for the port of Topolobampo this year, according to negotiations with shipping companies.

He also announced that private tourism investment at the end of the third half of 2019 was in the order of 6,726 million pesos in Sinaloa, which represents 39 percent of the state’s total investment.

Pérez Barros talked about training programs for tourism service providers, following the instructions of the Governor of the State Quirino Ordaz Coppel, managing 144 courses with more than 5,000 participants.

He referred to the program of Traveling Puro Sinaloa, so that the Sinaloa had the opportunity to know the greatness of the state, resulting in great success, generating a great alternative economy in the places that are visited, which in this case are all the municipalities of the entity, and stressed that it will continue this year.

As for the prospects, he hinted that he will participate in specialized business fairs, following the strategies to achieve new flights, more cruise ship arrivals and investment of hotel chains, at fairs such as Fitur, and Tianguis Turístico, among others.
